Perfection can be dreadfully boring.

Description

A big eye print with a wicked sense of humor and a rather unconventional idea of innocence.

A pale, dark-haired girl with enormous eyes stands against a backdrop of rich crimson curtains. In her hands rests a bloodied doll, an unfortunate little companion whose story remains untold. Nearby, a blue chair and checkered floor lend the scene the atmosphere of an old-fashioned theatrical performance.

The girl appears remarkably composed. There is no explanation, no visible remorse, and certainly no attempt to reassure anyone.

Perhaps she simply finds the whole affair terribly dull.

The World Is Boring combines the delicate appearance of vintage doll portraits with the unsettling details of contemporary surreal art. Its beauty is peculiar, its humor decidedly dark, and its central character seems entirely uninterested in behaving as expected.

Big Eye Print: When Perfection Becomes Dreadfully Boring

There is something wonderfully absurd about the lengths people will go to appear respectable. The carefully rehearsed smiles, the impeccable manners, the little performances of perfection.

And how terribly predictable it can all become.

In The World Is Boring, innocence and mischief occupy the same stage. The exaggerated eyes and delicate features recall the traditions of big eye artwork, while the unexpected imagery belongs to the more rebellious world of pop surrealism art.

The Riverside Art Museum’s exploration of Pop Surrealism and Lowbrow Art offers a glimpse into an artistic tradition that embraces unconventional characters, dark humor, and imagery that challenges expectations.

Part of Ellie’s Uncanny Fairytales collection, this piece invites the viewer into a world where appearances can be deceiving and good behavior is hardly guaranteed.

A Note from Ellie

I created The World Is Boring after being excluded by people who seemed terribly concerned with appearing perfect. I was angry, but also struck by how dreadfully boring all that pretending could be. The polished appearances, the social games, the endless effort to seem proper. I suppose I wanted to create something a little less predictable, and certainly less well-behaved.

Hand-Embellished Fine Art Prints — The Collector’s Edition

The World Is Boring is available as an ultra-limited edition of only 15 signed and numbered fine art prints worldwide. Once the edition closes, it will never be reprinted.

Each 13 × 19-inch giclée print is produced on archival fine art paper and individually hand-embellished by Ellie using pastels and colored pencils. A protective fixative is applied to preserve the hand-finished details.

Because each print is embellished individually, subtle variations make every piece distinctive.

Every artwork includes a signed Certificate of Authenticity and Ellie’s handwritten note, offering collectors a personal connection to the artist.

Complimentary shipping is included within the United States. Each print is carefully rolled in a protective tube using archival-safe materials.

Sold unframed.
